AP-TRAGEN: Transgenerational Prevention of Alcohol Consumption

In a trans-generational approach, this project encourages seniors to reduce their alcohol consumption, activate, strengthen and expand their resources, and develop their personal network of relationships. Presenting one’s own history and life’s work is the key.

Goals

  • Maintain good health as you become older:
    Expand your personal health resources.
  • Be proud of your results in life:
    Show your life’s achievements.
  • Celebrate what you have realised:
Transform your experience into your legacy.
  • Stay young in heart and mind:
Create the work of a lifetime in direct exchange with young people.

Implementation

In AP TRAGEN we facilitate the exchange between young people and seniors. In the pilot project, 15 trainees in 6 real-life meetings and 14 virtual meetings will contact 50 senior citizens over 65 years of age. The interns support senior citizens in documenting their life’s work. Questions on health and aging are also addressed. Guides and manuals will be developed in the pilot project in order to implement the project at national level in 2019.

Expected Results

Senior citizens and young adults benefit from the collaboration in the AP TRAGEN project. The over 65 year-olds are expanding their contacts, increasing their participation in community life and strengthening their health skills. Interns improve their social skills in dealing with seniors, are able to put health promotion and prevention into practice and thus improve their health literacy.

Further development

In 2018, we will carry out a regional pilot project, which will be implemented at national level from 2019 onwards.
